The San Luis Obispo
Chamber of Commerce...
business people working
together for a prosperous,
balanced community.
The Organization: What is the Chamber of Commerce?
The San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce is the oldest and largest voluntary organization in San Luis Obispo County. As an independent non-profit corporation (not affiliated with government or any other agency), we uniquely serve the needs of our 1,400 members.
For more than 105 years, we've been dedicated to a single goal: enhancing the economic health of the San Luis Obispo area and the prosperity of our members.
Our philosophy is simple. We believe more business is good for existing business, an attractive and viable city attracts more business activity, and this additional activity benefits every business person and resident.
We succeed thanks to active, motivated volunteer business leaders supported by a highly regarded professional staff. This potent combination does what no service club, government agency nor individual business could accomplish alone: enhance and promote San Luis Obispo as a place to do business and enjoy life.

Core Values
- Keep San Luis Obispo one of the world's greatest places to live and work.
- Keep existing businesses prosperous and selectively attract new ones.
- Attract more high-paying head-of-household jobs.
- Protect air quality, open space and sense of community.
- Develop future community leadership.
- Promote high-quality education.
- Help businesses understand and embrace diversity.
- Have San Luis Obispo grow in a manner consistent with protecting community character and quality of life.
The San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce's distinct vision of our city's future has changed little since the publication of our economic vision document in 2003. The document is updated every five years and is undergoing that update now.
Chamber Structure
The Board of Directors serves as the Chamber's policy-making body. Its members represent the business and professional leadership of the community. The Board consists of twenty-two members. Eight are elected one year and eight are elected the next year for two year terms each. Five are designated members. The Chairman of the Board presides over all meetings of the Board. The Executive Committee exercises the powers of the Board between those times when Board meetings are held.
The Executive Committee consists of the Chairman of the Board, Treasurer, Board Counsel, Past Chairman of the Board and Vice Chairs of the three main divisions of the Chamber. The committees of the Chamber harness the energies and abilities of our volunteer workers. Committees are responsible to the Board of Directors and report to the Board. Committee action is advisory only and does not become Chamber policy without Board approval.
Whatever your interest, the Chamber offers ample opportunities to get involved. Learn more about the commitees and how you can participate.
