A consultant hired by the
SLO
County airport gave sobering advice to a group of business leaders last week: “In this economic environment, if you want more airline service, business will have to give revenue guarantees or other direct help to be competitive with other cities who also want expanded service.” Jack Penning of Sixel Consulting Group used
Fargo,
ND, as a good example of how to get more service. Their airport authority and county economic development association got Microsoft and other companies who have offices in
Fargo and significant air travel needs to contribute hundreds of thousands of dollars to protect the new airlines from losses. Do we have enough companies like that? A new survey is trying to find out. If you use the airport and want better service, take the survey here. |
