Forever views, saved forever
It’s one of the area’s most persistent issues – how can property owners develop their land without losing the open spaces that makes our region so special. Brian Talley will talk about the Las Ventanas Ranch development and the land conservation agreement negotiated with the county that will forever preserve the surrounding ag lands. |

Shelter from the storm
Complaints about conditions at the County Animal Shelter recently led to an investigation by the Humane Society of the U.S. Its public report noted the facility’s strengths, but also pointed out a number of needed improvements. Dr. Eric Anderson, the shelter’s director, will talk about the report and what solutions are being implemented. |
Talk about Manic Mondays
News that the San Luis Coastal school district decided to launch “late-start Mondays” at all schools this year seemed to surprise a lot of parents. Concerns about increased child-care costs and working parents arriving to late to their jobs will be addressed by Dr. Ed Valentine, the district’s superintendent, and parent Lance Hillsinger. |

“Once is never enough…”

That’s the SLO’s water use motto, and probably no one has been more instrumental in making sure that philosophy is followed than John Moss. The recently retired City Utilities Director will give us an update on future water projects, talk about the importance of the city’s water re-use project and provide other highlights from his career. |
Perfectly entertaining
Sit back and enjoy an excerpt from “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change,” off-Broadway’s longest-running musical. Poking fun at the modern, suburban mating game, “I Love You…” has been called, “’Seinfeld’ set to music.” The hilarious production is coming to the San Luis Obispo Little Theatre for a month-long run scheduled to open Aug. 29. |

What high gas prices?
A team of Cal Poly students has taken fuel efficiency to another level, designing a “super-mileage” racer that managed to reach an eye-popping 2,752.3 miles per gallon. Denny Truong, a mechanical engineering senior and a member of the team, will talk about the “Black Widow,” which captured second place at this year’s international Shell Eco-Marathon Americas competition.
