Extreme weather caused by global warming?

The weather seems a bit out of sorts lately – with tornadoes ravaging many parts of the country, earthquakes and tsunamis devastating areas around the globe, we’ve even had record rain levels on the Central Coast this year. Could these extreme weather patterns be an effect of global warming? Local PG&E weather expert John Lindsey will tell us how extreme weather elsewhere can affect San Luis Obispo.

A personal farewell

For nearly 39 years, David Garth has been the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce president/CEO. On June 30, he will hand over the reigns to our very own vice-president, Ermina Karim. But before he says goodbye, Garth will share some of his most memorable moments and bid one last farewell as Good Morning SLO emcee.

Rare shellfish makes for good business

Located just south of Hearst Castle, The Abalone Farm is the largest aquaculture facility of its kind in the nation. The Abalone Farm, Inc. raises one of the rarest, most sought-after and highest-quality abalone available – the California Red Abalone (Haliotis rufescens). Find out from The Abalone Farm President Ray Fields how a unique company like this can thrive on the Central Coast.

Cancer is a family battle

Cancer is unpredictable. It can strike anyone, regardless of age, race or income. Taylor Kalman’s sister, Calli, was diagnosed with cancer at a very young age and Taylor has witnessed firsthand how hard the disease is on a family. It takes an emotional toll on everyone in the family. Taylor will share her family’s story, provide hope and tell us how they pulled together to start the Kid’s Cancer Research Foundation to support other families in similar situations.

Cracked iPhone leads to growing business

We often hear about entrepreneurs coming out of Cal Poly, and every now and then a Cal Poly student's fledgling company grows into big business for San Luis Obispo. One such business is iCracked, an iPhone repair service started 2009 by Cal Poly student AJ Forsythe. His company now has technicians (what they call "iTechs") in 12 states and two countries. Find out from Forsythe how he got started and how this San Luis Obispo-based business has been able to grow so quickly.
